Here’s what you will be doing

Squirrel Systems is looking for a Technical Writer to join our Quality Assurance team in Burnaby, BC. Reporting to the QA Manager, the Technical Writer will be responsible for reviewing and writing internal technical documents based on the new software and hardware while providing feedback to Product Development team on the new product. The Technical Documenter is required to write in a concise yet informative, easy to understand style. The Technical Writer must be able to research and understand the functionality and purpose of Squirrel products and translate this understanding into text that is easily understood by any reader.

The Technical Writer is also responsible for maintaining and updating existing documents and field advisories in order to reflect the correct status of the products as well as assisting in uncovering software defects and issues that are discovered internally or by our clients by acting as the Tier 4 escalation point for Support.

 

Specific Duties Include

  • Review all marketing requirements and match against developer designs and delivered programs reporting any differences found during UAT process

  • Provide internal technical documentation for all features based on requirements and design documents

  • Provide maintenance and updates to existing documents and tech notes

  • Post all documents and tech notes to Techweb as required

  • Report, document, file and track all defects, supporting paperwork, suggestions, questions, and discrepancies through proper channels

  • Demonstrate ability of good analytical and writing skills with the ability for high quality deliverables working under tight deadlines

  • Perform necessary time tracking and activity status updates in project tracking system to ensure billing is accurate where applicable

  • Assist with nominal amount of miscellaneous administrative tasks when required (filing, copying, and distribution of data)

  • Provide technical subject matter expertise and technical leadership

  • May be required to provide end user documentation when requested from Marketing

What You Bring

  • Degree or diploma in technical documentation or equivalent editorial/writing experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create comprehensive technical documentation and technical notices

  • Demonstrated effective writing skills required

  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft operating systems Server 2016/2019, Windows 10

  • Experience in the Software industry preferred

  • Background in restaurant industry a bonus

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Excellent teamwork and proven ability to influence cross-functional teams

  • Self-directed and ability to work with others

  • Work with technical and non-technical internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to adapt to and learn new software quickly

  • Attention to detail in all areas of work

  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects
