Here’s what you’ll be doing
You will be collaborating with Engineers in the development and testing of Intel and ARM based touchscreen devices to complement our enterprise grade restaurant management software for the hospitality industry
Work with Windows and Linux OS, Drivers, I/O Interfaces to optimize support for Squirrel’s restaurant management system
Work amongst the Engineering team and the Factory through any challenges during terminal development
Test and certify peripheral devices such as bar code readers, RFID readers, customer facing displays, cash drawers, and 40-column POS printers
Troubleshoot general system issues on both the OS/Software and Hardware levels
Research driver solutions and work with other OEMs as needed, to solve OS-device challenges
Help to debug and diagnose touchscreen terminal or terminal-related system issues
Test and certify and document embedded Linux terminal OS software upgrades, working closely with software developers
Create and maintain reference images for production terminal models (used by Factory, internal Production, Repair Depot, Field Service)
Apply your knowledge in the configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of Ethernet cable, cable termination and network hardware
Apply your knowledge in the configuring and installing Wireless Network Access Points
Effectively collaborate with other teams in communicating the company’s technology strategy to customers, partners, management, and employees
Dive into product specs, technical designs, code and test plans to drive quality deliverables
Work with engineering and software programmers on ideas for new features and to improve existing features
Support the Quality Assurance team in their certification and pilot deployment of new hardware releases
Train (or assist in training), typically on new product or upgrade release transitions, to Factory, internal Production, Repair Depot, Field Service Departments
Provide support and technical diagnosis assistance (Hardware. Software, Upgrades, Images) to frontline internal customer support departments on site challenge issues, as needed.
Site visits to assist in problem solving or data gathering or installing new solutions from the Engineering Department, occasionally
Other duties as assigned
This is a permanent, full time position and works closely with Hardware Engineers.
What you bring
Love of computers and technology and passion for quality
Post-secondary diploma or degree in engineering, computer science or A+ Certification
Windows 10 Operating System Knowledge for Development, Setup & Configuration of computers
Test plan creation and estimating
Methodical testing discipline
Outstanding technical skills with a can-do attitude
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong organization and time-management skills
Ability to work independently and to effectively multitask
Good judgement to quickly know when to seek direction
Flexibility to take on other duties and roles as needed
Working knowledge of network configurations
The ability to learn new skills and keep current with rapidly changing information technology
Bonus Points if you have:
Squirrel Restaurant Management System point of sale experience
Linux operating system knowledge
Knowledge of Raspberry Pi embedded computers
Operational knowledge of Squirrel Server OSs (Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012)
Windows SQL knowledge
Apple iOS knowledge
Android OS knowledge
