Eltrax Announces Release Of Linux Version Of Restaurant Application Solution.
ATLANTA, GA (December 20, 1999) - ELTRAX Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ: ELTX), announced today the first commercial release of the Linux version of the Squirrel® Restaurant Management System, an electronic point of sale system designed for use in the table service restaurant industry. This first release of the next generation Squirrel® system has been in field beta test for over a year and is operating in more than fifty restaurant and hotel sites worldwide. Cost, performance, reliability, and support of the Java programming language were the primary reasons that Red Hat® (NASDAQ: RHAT) Linux was selected as the terminal operating system for Squirrel's latest release. The power and flexibility of the Linux operating system allows Squirrel® to run "diskless" and with less memory than that required by other operating systems. Squirrel® selected the Java programming language in order to take advantage of its "write once, run anywhere" capabilities. As a result, the award winning Squirrel® restaurant management system will run on a number of different hardware and software platforms. Linux is the operating system at the point-of-sale workstation and Microsoft Windows NT is the operating system for the network file server. This creates the next generation environment for the mission critical applications required to meet the demands of hospitality customers today and in the future.
