Squirrel Announces New Network-Ready Touch Terminal
ATLANTA, GA -- June 21, 1999
Squirrel Companies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Eltrax Systems Inc., announces
the release of the new Workstation 7 network-ready multi-function touchscreen terminal.
The Workstation 7 terminal supports touch, keyboard and mouse user interfaces. It
is designed as a high performance PC platform for today's graphical applications
such as the Squirrel® for Windows NT® restaurant point-of-sale system, and other
Windows 95/98, Windows NT and Microsoft ® Office applications
Engineered to meet industrial quality commercial grade standards, the Workstation
7 is designed to withstand the rugged demands of table and quick service food and
beverage operations. The optional keyboard and mouse support makes the terminal
adaptable for use in other hospitality applications such as general retail and front
desk. This new Workstation answers the demand from hotel and chain restaurant operators
for a scalable touchscreen terminal solution based upon open system architecture
that is both durable and cost effective.
"Support of touch, keyboard and mouse user interfaces" said Joe Cortese,
Director, Engineering Services, "makes this new workstation a network solution
that meets all open system architecture technical standards as well as the user
requirements of most hospitality staff including restaurant servers and managers,
hotel desktop workers, or front desk receptionists."
The Workstation 7 is the most recent product from Squirrel in an award-winning line of touchscreen terminals designed specifically to meet the unique demands of the hospitality industry. The original Squirrel "flatscreen", with over 35,000 installed, was the first to integrate an LCD panel, credit card reader, employee ID reader, and CPU inside a single unit. Today's latest models support both the Squirrel Classic and Squirrel for Windows NT point-of-sale software applications. Both terminal designs provide a small footprint solution and support multiple mounting options on the counter, wall or suspended from above, to take the greatest advantage of the limited space available in most foodservice business environments.
Squirrel customers will now have a greater choice from the different terminal options offered by either the Workstation 6 or 7. The Workstation 7 has been engineered and designed to take advantage of leading edge off-the-shelf PC components to ensure software application independence. Customers may run a variety of operating systems including DOS, Linux, Windows 95/98, and Windows NT, and may add various off-the-shelf hardware options.
It is equipped with an open architecture PC socket 7 upwardly compatible Intel® processor with the base model starting at a Pentium 200 MHz. Memory can be upgraded to 128MB of RAM. The standard display is 12.1" Color LCD, 800 X 600 resolution with 1MB Video RAM. Four serial ports allow connectivity to other peripherals like magnetic swipe, cash drawers, customer display, check printers, floppy and CD drives, keyboard, mouse and others. The addition of an optional hard drive enables the Workstation 7 to operate as a POS touch terminal; network client running Windows network or local applications; or as a redundant Squirrel for Windows NT fileserver.
