Trade days draw top names to lead education-packed seminars at 1999 Playhouse Wine Festival

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- MARCH 30, 1999 .The 1999 Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival's Trade Days are proving a big draw, attracting big names to lead industry seminars and sponsor trade events.

The Trade Days programme, designed exclusively for members of the food and beverage industry has grown to a record 15 events spread over four days, providing opportunities to discuss issues relating to the wine trade and meet one-on-one with international winemakers.

Squirrel Systems, the company that introduced TouchScreen technology to the restaurant business is joining this year's Playhouse Wine Festival as the first Trade Days sponsor. A natural fit of an industry leader to enhance Trade Days programme which benefits the clients served by Squirrel.

Another Festival first is this year's introduction of Buyer and Server streams to the Trade Days programme. The streams have been designed to better direct members of the trade to the programmes most beneficial to their individual needs with buyer seminars focusing on ... and servers

  • Sake to Me *buyers (Monday, April 12/3:00 - 5:00 p.m.), lead by Shoichi Nagai of Japan’s Nagai Sake Breweries.
  • Tips for Tips *servers (Wednesday, April 14/10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon), lead by award-winning Master Sommelier Larry Stone of San Francisco’s Rubicon restaurant.
  • What's New Australia *buyers/sellers (Thurs., Apr. 15/9:45 – 11:30 a.m.), lead by renowned Australian winemaker, critic and author James Halliday.
  • The Nose Knows *servers (Thurs., Apr. 15/11:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.), lead by Margaret Cliff of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Okanagan Research Centre.
  • Rosemon Trophy Wines *buyers (Fri., Apr. 16/9:00 – 10:20 a.m.), lead by John W. Gay, President of Rosemount Estates, Australia’s largest family-owned winery.

The 21st Annual Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival runs from April 12 -18 with 142 wineries from 17 countries gathering in Vancouver to pair a stellar line-up of wines with culinary creations from top international chefs.
