Squirrel® Companies Inc. wins the California Restaurant Association's 1998 EXPO
Innovator Award in the Technology category
Squirrel® Companies Inc. was awarded the California Restaurant Association's 1998 EXPO Innovator Award in the Technology category this morning in San Francisco. The EXPO Innovator Awards are presented in conjunction with the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Exposition held at Moscone Center in San Francisco from August 22 - 24, 1998. These awards recognize excellence in foodservice and hospitality products in categories such as appetizers, beverages, desserts, entrees, environmental/safety products, heavy and light equipment and health foods.
Squirrel's winning interface is based on human factors engineering and runs on a Microsoft® Windows NT® software platform. It is part of the Touch Tomorrow™ Family of Solutions and is a 32-bit application designed as client/server architecture, Ethernet, and TCP/IP with Microsoft Windows NT and SQL relational database to create a powerful Point-of-Sale (P.O.S.) solution, which is scaleable to accommodate operations of all sizes.
For this new version, Squirrel teamed up with human factors engineers, industrial designers, graphic artists and Microsoft to create a unique user interface that is dramatically easier to use. The ergonomic design matches innovative technology with the way people work best. The result of this collaborative effort is a user interface that provides restaurant operators with a system that requires very little server training. This helps bring the operator's focus back to the restaurant guest.

The panel of judges was made up of five members of the California Restaurant Association's Board of Directors. The judges were asked to score products based on a variety of criteria. Most importantly, products were evaluated based on their ability to streamline operations from the restaurateur's prospective and deliver a benefit to the restaurant customer.
