November 20, 2002 - Vancouver - Barry Logan, President of the Vancouver based Squirrel Systems is a recent recipient of the FS/TEC (Food Services Technology) Distinguished Career Achievement Award. This award is awarded by the FS/TEC advisory board and recognizes outstanding contributions to the Food Service industry. Barry received this award along with two other recipients (executives from significant restaurant chains) at the annual FS/TEC awards luncheon held on October 29 in Orlando, Florida.

Squirrel Systems is a leading provider of restaurant management systems for independent and chain restaurants, including restaurants and food and beverage operations in hotels, resorts and clubs. Squirrel Systems, whose head office is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, is a pioneer in the field of touchscreen point-of-sale systems within the casual-dining segment. Touchscreen POS systems generally have been credited with reducing employee-training times by incorporating a more user-friendly graphical interface and with improving service and reducing order errors through on-screen prompts.

Logan was a founding partner in the 18-year-old company, which originally was known as Postech Inc. The Calgary native was responsible for the evolution of the Squirrel product line since its inception in 1984. Before his career at Squirrel, Logan developed a computer service bureau and had involvement with computer-oriented organizations dating back to 1972. The holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in computing science from the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta, he resides in Vancouver with his wife and daughters.

About FS/TEC 2002

Nation's Restaurant News and Robert N. Grimes produced the seventh annual International Foodservice Technology Exposition, or FS/TEC, in October at Orlando's Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center. Organizers of the four-day event said this year's conference attracted more than 2,600 foodservice professionals, educators, exhibitors and media members. From the opening general session involving telecommunications industry executives to the closing presentation on technology for customer loyalty programs, FS/TEC 2002 presenters and attendees alike focused on the obstacles to and benefits of networking.
