Atlanta's Smokejack Installs SquirrelOne

Smokejack is a casual restaurant in downtown Alpharetta, Georgia; a suburb of Atlanta. Owner Dave Filipowicz and his team serve up quality cuisine with a side of Southern hospitality in a family-friendly atmosphere. Combining a chef-driven concept with neighborhood charm, Smokejack offers the best in barbeque from ribs to fresh salmon.

The main dining room seats 90, with an additional 41 seats at and around the adjacent bar. Above the main restaurant, there is Jack's Attic. This private dining room comes with lots of atmosphere, warmth and comfort provided by the exposed brick walls and hand-cut wood siding combined with local artists' photography. The Attic is complete with a full bar, sound system and seating for up to 80 guests for a sit-down meeting, lunch or dinner. Smokejack offers wireless Internet throughout for the convenience of their guests.

Dave began his career as a line cook at Atlanta's Rio Bravo. Working his way through college, he honed not only his cooking skills but also his strategic management skills. He learned to value the role of information technology in a restaurant environment not only for the efficiencies that facilitate excellent customer service but also for the real-time information that drives strategic decision-making.

When it came time to open his own restaurant three years ago, Dave selected SquirrelOne.

"I chose SquirrelOne for Smokejack because of my long history with the product. I wanted to work with a company that had a long track record as a vendor to the table service restaurant industry. My personal experience with Squirrel over the years has been second to none," states Dave Filipowicz. "Almost all of the Squirrel staff I have worked with came from the restaurant industry. They understand my business and work with me to align the system to meet the goals of my operation."

Smokejack currently uses SquirrelOne for point of sale and Squirrel's punch clock functionality for time and attendance. The plan is to expand functionality to include Inventory, Employee Scheduling, and QuickBooks financials.

Dave is not stopping with just one Smokejack. This dynamic restaurateur is currently planning his next restaurant scheduled to open by early 2009. With the opening of the second store, Dave and his team will start using Squirrel's multi-unit management tools. This will allow the team to manage multiple databases from a remote location, view consolidated reports and much more.

"I'm passionate about food, not technology," says Dave Filipowicz. "SquirrelOne allows me to be more efficient so that I can focus on what's important to my operation - delivering a quality food and service experience to my guests."
