Known as the location of Canada's best snow and longest ski season in the Canadian Rockies, Sunshine Village has been making skier and snowboarders' dreams come true for 80 years. Sunshine Village is located just minutes from Banff and Lake Louise in Alberta and offers over 3,300 acres of terrain on three mountains, with an average annual snowfall of over 30 feet. Sunshine Village is big in every way. The resort features 12 different lifts including 8 super lifts, a high speed gondola, 3 different mountains to explore, and the novel opportunity to ski or ride in both the province of Alberta and British Columbia on the same run.
This world class resort is family owned, employs 650 and welcomes as many as 7,000 skiers daily. The resort contracts ARAMARK Canada to operate 11 different food and beverage outlets that include full service dining rooms, bars, a pub, quick serve coffee shops and a staff cafeteria. Squirrel has been the point of sale system for the last 13 years.
Originally a Squirrel Classic site, the mountain upgraded to SquirrelOne 3 years ago. When the time came to upgrade their point of sale system at the resort, ARAMARK Foodservices Director, Mike Roberge did his homework. "We ultimately chose to stay with Squirrel Systems and upgrade to SquirrelOne because of the exceptional reporting capabilities, the ease of remote access and a very competitive price point," states Mike Roberge.
"Sunshine Village is an incredibly challenging environment," says Mike Roberge. "We operate 21 hours per day, 7 days a week and process approximately 10,000 transactions a day, from 30 Squirrel workstations all running from on one server located at the bottom of the mountain."
The system runs on a multi-blade server and is connected to the various locations by an underground fiber optic network. With the server located in the basement of a building at the bottom of the mountain it is critical to be able to remotely access all system functions.
"It's easy for me to make configuration changes, access reports and view activities at all 11 units from my office or anywhere on the network," states Mike Roberge. "Our night audit staff can do everything they need to do efficiently from their location."
Over night guests at Sunshine Village can stay at Banff's only ski-in ski-out hotel, the Sunshine Inn. This 84 room hotel is located at an elevation of 7,082 feet. Transactions from the 11 foodservice facilities on the mountain can be electronically posted to hotel guest rooms via an interface between SquirrelOne and the Medallion Property Management System at the Sunshine Inn.
