Squirrel Systems achieves it’s US EMV certification

BURNABY, BC, January 11, 2017 – Squirrel Systems, a leading technology provider to the hospitality industry, today announced that it has completed U.S. EMV certifications with solutions from multiple payment gateway providers, including Merchant Link, Elavon, Shift 4 Corporation, Vantiv, Datacap, and Cayan.

What does this mean for our customers?

These certifications provide Squirrel point of sale customers with the widest array of payment solutions to securely process EMV chip card payments via the gateway of their choice.

  • Gateway Flexibility:
  • By remaining payment gateway agnostic, Squirrel Systems can offer customers the flexibility to select the solution right for them. These gateways connect with numerous banks and processors themselves, further enhancing customer choice and their ability to negotiate the best processing rates.

  • Choice of Payment Devices:
  • Depending on specific needs, Squirrel POS customers can choose from several payment devices that support both chip-and-PIN and chip-and-signature methods of verification. In addition, devices can be either wired for counter service operations or wireless for pay at the table scenarios. These payment devices also offer Near Field Communications (NFC) capability for contactless payments through Apple Pay, Android Pay, and more.

  • Reduce PCI Scope:
  • Squirrel has worked with our payment partners to architect EMV and point-to-point encryption (P2PE) solutions to protect cardholder data and reduce the scope of a merchant’s PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) assessment.

This security architecture, in which the payment engine is semi-integrated with the Squirrel point of sale system, isolates card data onto the payment network; the card data is neither transmitted nor stored through the POS system and thus PCI scope is reduced.

  • EMV Expertise:
  • Squirrel was the first to introduce the secure semi-integrated architecture in the Canadian restaurant market in 2010 and is leveraging this expertise now that EMV has been mandated in the US.

“Squirrel is proud to have partnered with leading gateway providers to provide EMV solutions in the US. As a leader in Canada successfully implementing EMV for many years, our customers can trust our proven technology platform,” said Joe Cortese, Vice President of Product Development at Squirrel Systems.

“Another benefit of working with Squirrel is the knowledge we can share with our customers about optimizing the operational impact when using an EMV payment solution, making it easy for staff and guests alike.”
